PIERZ - - Buckman, Lastrup, Sobieski and Avon posted wins in the opening round of the Region 8C tournament Saturday at Legion Park in Pierz.
Buckman defeated Nisswa 6-2. Lastrup edged Fort Ripley 3-2 in extra Innings. Sobieski shutout St. Stephen 4-0 and Upsala slipped past Avon 1-0 in a pitcher's duel.

PIERZ-A walk-off, two-out RBI single by Nate Janson scored Jason Sadlovsky with the winning run in the bottom of the 14th inning to give the Lastrup Lakers a 3-2 win over the Fort Ripley Rebels Saturday.
Brian Skluzacek cracked a lead-off homer for Fort Ripley in the third to tie the score 1-1 and the Rebels took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Rhett Williamson led off with a double and scored on a Jason Sather single.

That lead held until the bottom of the eighth when Paul Herman led off for Lastrup with an infield single and eventually scored when Reggie Litke laid down a squeeze bunt.
Litke earned the win retiring all nine batters he faced in three innings of relief. Starter Chad Weiss struck out 10, didn't walk a batter and scattered 10 hits over the first 11 innings.
Sadlovsky and Janson both finished 3-5 for the Lakers, while Litke and Brad Meyer had two hits apiece.
Skluzacek went 3-5 with a solo homer to lead the Rebels, while Zach Heidmann singled twice and Williamson's double was the only extra base hit of the game for either team.

Buckman 6, Nisswa 2

PIERZ-Mark Kahl struck out eight, didn't walk a batter and allowed just five scattered hits in a complete-game performance to lead the Buckman Billygoats past the Nisswa Lightning 6-2 in Saturday's Region 8C opening-round game.
Buckman scored once in the first and fifth innings, three times in the fifth and once in the ninth. Nisswa plated single runs in the fifth and ninth innings.
Joe Kahl went 2-4 with a home run, sacrifice fly and two RBIs for Buckman.
Lane Girtz was 2-4 with a triple, two RBIs and scored three runs and Aaron Weber also finished 2-4.
Aaron Jenkins belted a lead-off, ninth-inning solo homer for Nisswa. Drew Boland doubled and Jeremiah Piepkorn was the only Lightning player with multiple hits.

Sobieski 4, St. Stephen 0
PIERZ-Sobieski's Jack Hegarty struck out 15, while pitching a one-hit, 4-0 shutout against St. Stephen in the opening round of the Region 8C tournament Saturday.
Sobieski is the only Victory League team still unbeaten this season at 17-0.
The Skis scored once in the first inning and plated three more runs in the third on a an error and RBI singles by Dan Marod and Scott Litchy.
Marod and Dusty Parker collected two hits apiece for Sobieski, while Cody Wolhart had the only hit for St. Stephen.

Upsala 1, Avon 0
PIERZ-Brandon Welinski drove in the only run for the Upsala Blue Jays who slipped past the South's top-seeded Avon Lakers 1-0 in Saturday's opening-round game of the Region 8C tournament.
Welinski ripped a two-out single in the top of the first that scored Justin Cichon and Laker pitcher Matt Swanson made the lead stand up as he struck out nine and scattered six hits in a complete-game shutout.
Losing pitcher Matt Pichelmann also went the distance. He only struck out one, but didn't walk a batter and only allowed four hits.
Welinski was the only Blue Jay with multiple hits and Caleb Curry went 2-4 with a double and three stolen bases for the Lakers.
