Amateur Baseball: Lastrup upsets Brewers

PIERZ -- Preston Rocheleau scattered five hits, struck out 11 and pitched seven scoreless innings to lead No. 3 seeded Lastrup Lakers to a 4-1 upset of No. 2 Pierz Brewers in the first round of the East Division playoffs Saturday.

Reggie Litke tossed the final two innings to earn the save. He allowed two hits and a run, while striking out three.

The win avenged two regular season losses by Lastrup to the Brewers.

Paul Herman and Scott Janson had three hits apiece for the Lakers, while Brad Meyer, Litke and Dan Saehr finished with two hits each.

Logan Meyer went 2-4 with a double for the Brewers and Dylan Kummet also had a pair of hits.

Buckman 10, Bulldogs 2

BUCKMAN - Mark Kahl struck out 10 and allowed just four hits in a complete game performance to lead the No. 1 seeded Buckman Billygoats past the No. 4 Pierz Bulldogs in the opening round of the East Division playoffs Saturday.

Matt Tautges led Buckman's 11-hit offensive attack by going 3-6 with a double and Noah Boser added a pair of hits.

Four different Bulldogs had hits.

Fort Ripley 14, Cuyuna Range 3

FORT RIPLEY - Jack Hegarty struck out 13 over seven innings to lead the top-seeded and unbeaten Fort Ripley Rebels to a 14-3 win over the No. 4 Cuyuna Range Miners in Saturday's opening round of the North Division playoffs.

Bill Sather was 3-5 for the Rebels, including a three-run homer, and finished with six RBIs. Hegarty, Nick Jelacie and Brian Skluzacek had two hits apiece and Chris Smolke contributed a double.

The Miners were led by Lance Herbst, who was 2-3 with an RBI triple. Their other two hits came from Luke Zontelli, who drove in two runs.

by forfeit Saturday when the third-seeded Aitkin Steam were unable to

field a team.

In the West Division, the top-seeded and unbeaten Sobieski Skis crushed

No. 4 Flensburg 15-1 in seven innings and No. 2 Upsala prevailed 8-1 over

No. 4 Randall in the opening round.

In the South Division, No. 1 Avon held off No. 4 Freeport 7-5 and No. 3

St. Stephen beat St. Wendel 5-2.
