Amateur Baseball: Nisswa enters playoffs on fire

AITKIN — Jeremiah Piepkorn belted a two-run homer and finished 3-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored for the Nisswa Lightning who defeated the Aitkin Steam 11-4 in the final Victory League regular-season game Friday, July 31.

Extra base hits were plentiful for the Lightning keyed by Sam Peterson who homered and doubled. Drew Boland, Kody Ruedisili and Austin Meister also doubled with the latter driving in three runs in the first when Nisswa jumped out to a 5-0 lead.

Jon Blanchette finished 3-5 with a double for Aitkin. Hunter Nissen, Nathan Ehnstrom and Drew Olson finished with two hits each.

The Region 8C Tournament begins Saturday, Aug. 8 in Pierz when Buckman takes on Randall at 11 a.m. The Pierz Brewers will face Upsala at 1:30 p.m. followed by Nisswa vs. St. Stephen at 4:30 p.m. and Ft. Ripley vs. Avon at 7:30 p.m. Winners and losers brackets will continue Sunday, Aug. 9 in Pierz.

The championship game will be played 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 to determine the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds for the State Class C Tournament.

Three loser bracket games Sunday, Aug. 15 will determine the No. 3 and No.

4 seeds.
