Amateur Baseball: Nisswa loads up on runs

ST. MATHIAS--Jason Roepke went 3-4 with a home run and a double for the North Division leading Nisswa Lightning who defeated the St. Mathias Devils 14-3 in eight innings Sunday.

Roepke's homer led off the seventh and was the first of eight runs in the inning that broke open a 4-3 game.

Tory Miller, Adam Hardy and Brett Jenkins also finished with three hits apiece for Nisswa. Hardy stroked a two-bagger and Miller had a pair of doubles and scored three runs. Drew Boland, Chris Peterson and Kevin Smith turned in multiple hits.

Conner Knettel and Konnor Wicklund had two hits each for the Devils and Nate Eschenbacher contributed a double.

Bulldogs 4, Brewers 2

PIERZ-Roland Ramos and Brandon Dickmann both went 2-4 with doubles for the Pierz Bulldogs in a 4-2 East Division victory over the Pierz Brewers Sunday.

It was the third straight win for the Bulldogs who began their season by losing their first nine games.

Winning pitcher Austin Dickmann also had two hits for the Bulldogs. He struck out four and allowed six hits over six innings before giving the mound to Dave Skiba who struck out three and held the Brewers hitless to earn a save.

It was also the second game of the day for the Bulldogs who edged St. Wendel 3-2 earlier.

accounted for the other two Brewer hits.

PIERZ - - A triple by Ryan Foreman was the difference for the Pierz Bulldogs in a 3-2 non-division win over the St. Wendel Saints Sunday.

After the Saints took a 2-0 lead in the top of the seventh, Foreman's triple in the bottom of the inning drove in two runs and he was awarded home when an off-target throw ended up in the dugout.

David Skiba doubled and Mike Meyer was 2-3 for the Bulldogs, who were outhit 11-5.

Swanville 10, Cuyuna Range 4

SWANVILLE-Losing pitcher Dillon Solid went 4-5 at the plate with a pair of RBIs to lead the Cuyuna Range Miners in a 10-4 loss to the Swanville Swans in a non-division game Sunday.

Lance Herbst had three hits and an RBI for the Miners and Gunnar Wiklund finished 2-5 with a double and an RBI.

Lastrup 9, Royalton 1

ROYALTON-Peter Herman homered twice and finished 3-4 with five RBIs to lead the Lastrup Lakers past the Royalton Riverdogs 9-1 in Sunday's East Division game.

Scott Janson and Preston Rocheleau added doubles for Lastrup and Reese Kapsner had two hits.

Steve Hoff doubled for Royalton and David Grittner scored the only Riverdog run.

BUCKMAN-Jeremy Monson tossed a complete game striking out nine and didn't walk a batter for the Buckman Billygoats in a 2-1 non-division win over the St. Stephen Steves Sunday.

An RBI double by Aaron Weber gave Buckman an 1-0 lead in the first and Noah Boser scored the eventual winning run in the second. Matt Tautges, Lane Girtz and Jack Suska had two hits each for the Billygoats.

Nisswa 14, Aitkin 1

AITKIN-Jason Roepke belted a grand slam for the Nisswa Lightning in a 14-1 win over the Aitkin Steam Saturday in a North Division game.

The Lightning managed just nine hits (five for extra bases), but took advantage of 24 free passes on 19 walks and five hit batters by Zac Peterson who pitched all nine innings for Aitkin.

Drew Boland, Tory Miller, Adam Hardy and Morgan Shepherd doubled for Nisswa while Boland and Bo Krutchen finished with multiple hits.

Sam Peterson went 3-4 with two doubles and scored the only run for Aitkin.

Brian Burman and Jake Lynn had two hits each.
