Amateur Baseball: Nisswa takes Region 8C title, Buckman 3rd

AVON — Kody Ruedisili ripped two doubles to help the Nisswa Lightning knock off the Avon Lakers 6-4 to earn the Region 8C title Sunday, Aug. 14.

The win gives the Lightning the top seed for Region 8C in the Class C State Tournament, where they get a bye into the second round.

The Lightning trailed 4-3 heading into the ninth inning, but a two-run double by Nic Nelson gave the Lightning a lead and they added to it on a Nate DeChaine sac fly.

AVON — The Buckman Billygoats defeated the Pierz Lakers 4-1 Sunday, Aug. 14, to secure third place in the Region 8C Tournament.

The Lakers will advance to the Class C State Tournament as the No. 4 seed from Region 8C.

Todd Robinson earned the win for the Billygoats. He went five innings and allowed one run.

Lane Girtz, Travis Kahl and Jack Suska picked up two hits for Buckman.

Mitch Woitalla had two hits and scored the only Pierz run.

The Lakers open the Class C State Tournament against the Watkins Clippers 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, in Faribault.

Buckman opens state against the Cannon Falls Bears 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, in Faribault.

AVON — Peter Herman posted two hits, including a double, for the Pierz Lakers as they clinched their ticket to the Class C State Tournament with a 5-1 win over the Foley Lumberjacks Saturday, Aug. 13.

Preston Rocheleau struck out 11 over seven innings to get the win for the Lakers.

Noah Cekalla and Brady Petron also doubled for Pierz.

AVON — Noah Boser went 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the Buckman Billygoats over the St. Stephen Steves 6-2 and helped Buckman punch its ticket to the Class C State Tournament Saturday, Aug. 13.

Lane Girtz, Matt Tatuges and Aaron Weber all had two-hit games for the Billygoats.

Tautges pitched a complete game to get the win and struck out eight.
