Amateur Baseball: Williamson’s doubles lead Ripley rally

FORT RIPLEY — Rhett Williamson doubled twice and drove in three runs for the Fort Ripley Rebels who rallied to defeat the Nisswa Lightning 8-7 Sunday, July 12, in a North Division game.

Trailing 7-5 in the bottom of the eighth, the Rebels took the lead on a two-run double by Williamson and an RBI single by Jason Sather.

Sather and Brett Kramer both finished 2-for-3 with the latter contributing a double and scoring three runs.

Tory Miller finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Nisswa. Drew Boland and Aaron Jenkins doubled and finished with multiple hits.

Brewers 5, Buckman 4

BUCKMAN — Cody Kimman pitched eight solid innings of relief for the Pierz Brewers who handed the Buckman Billygoats their first loss of the season in an East Division game Sunday, July 12.

Buckman fell to 4-1 while the Brewers improved to 3-2.

After Buckman took a 3-0 lead in the first off starter Isaac Otte, Kimman held the Goats to just three hits and one run the rest of the way. He struck out two and walked one while getting strong defensive play.

Buckman’s three first-inning runs came on an RBI single from Matt Kummet, an Andrew Rueckert fielder’s choice and then Kummet scored in a rundown play. Kummet finished with two of Buckman’s four hits including a double.

Pierz came back with two runs in the second on a Billygoat error and added the tying and go ahead runs in the fifth on two more Buckman errors. Ryan Ruckmayer’s RBI single in the sixth made it 5-3.

Otte hit a two-out single in the ninth that scored Travis Kahl to make it 5-4 before Otte was thrown out at second trying for the extra base on the throw home.

Rylee Rauch led the Brewers offensively as he finished 3-for-4 while Ryan Stuckmayer and Brandon Stuckmayer accounted for the other two Pierz hits.

St. Mathias 8, Aitkin 2

AITKIN — Kolton Happke and Nate Eschenbacher contributed multiple hits for the St. Mathias Devils who defeated the Aitkin Steam 8-2 in a North Division game Sunday, July 12.

The big inning for the Devils game in the seventh when an outfield collision allowed two St. Mathias runners to score and a sacrifice fly by Jake Zelinske scored the final run.

Aitkin’s two runs came in the sixth on a RBI double by Landon Janzen and run-scoring single by Matt Onyx. Jake Ince finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and Nathan Ehnstrom added a double.
