Area Baseball: Aitkin powers past C-I for a conference win

Six area baseball teams were in action Friday, April 23

AITKIN — Owen Miller tallied four hits and Caiden Kjelstrom went 3-4 with three RBIs in Aitkin’s 19-1 Mid-State Conference win over Crosby-Ironton Friday, April 23.

Connor Zender’s run in the top of the first gave C-I a 1-0 lead, but the Gobblers responded with three runs in the bottom of the first and put the game away with a seven-run third inning.

Logan Olson pitched four innings. He gave up just one hit while striking out seven batters.

Landan Janzen and Hunter Nissen each finished with two hits, including a double each.

ESKO — Sam Rysavy went 2-3 with a double as the Pequot Lakes Patriots lost 8-1 to Esko Friday, April 23.

Alex Morgan scored the lone Patriots’ run with Clay Erickson getting the RBI.

Pillager splits

SEBEKA — Pillager’s Paul Jenkins earned his 300th career win as the Huskies put a seven-run third inning on Sebeka for a 8-7 win in Game Two of a Park Region Conference doubleheader Friday, April 23.

The Huskies trailed 7-1 after two innings but responded with seven runs in the third inning and Blake Clark closed out the game pitching 3.2 innings to get the win.

Clark doubled with two hits and three RBIs and Hiltner also doubled as the Huskies knocked out six hits.

Gabe Grimsley’s double was one of just two hits for Pillager in a 6-5 Game One loss to the Trojans.

Cole Hiltner recorded the other Huskies hit and the team drew eight walks.

MENAHGA — Tyson Barthel went 1-3 with a double for the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines Friday, April 23, in a 4 -3 Park Region Conference loss to the Menahga Braves.

Issac Hamann had two hits with one RBI and a double

Tony Kreklau went 1-4 with one RBI and Zack Shaw hit a triple.
