Area Baseball: Brainerd drops two in Gopher Classic ending weekend 1-4.

Brainerd gave the Minneapolis Lakers their best shot in the last inning by rallying for four runs in the bottom of the seventh, but fell short 9-6 in their fourth game of the Gopher Classic Sunday, July 14, in Waconia.

Broc Peterson hit two singles in three at-bats with a walk. Josh Hukriede ripped a double as one of his two hits. Michael Laber went 2-4 with two RBIs. Eli Roberts hit a sacrifice fly as the last run for Brainerd in the seventh inning.

Marcus Lennartson started for Brainerd. He allowed six runs, three of them earned, on three hits and walked four. Ben Jones came on in relief of Lennartson and pitched six innings. Jones allowed three runs on seven hits and walked five batters.

The next game saw Eric Martin pitch all six innings for Brainerd as they dropped another game to Creighton Prep 2-0. Martin only allowed two runs on two hits. Martin pitched to contact as he only struck out one batter and walked one batter.

Brainerd did manage eight hits off Creighton Prep pitching, including a two-hit game by Colin Kleffman. Peterson went 1-3 as did Gunner and Konnar Wicklund. Brainerd left seven men on base.
