Josh Hukriede’s bases loaded single in the bottom of the sixth inning scored the eventual winning run for Brainerd as they beat Thunder Bay 13-10, Wednesday July 24.
Eli Roberts, Renzen Caughey and Ben Jones all had three RBI apiece in the high scoring game. Caughey belted a first inning triple that scored Roberts and put Brainerd on the scoreboard. Colin Kleffman and Hukriede both went 3-4 with Kleffman getting a double. Ben Jones also ripped a double as a part of his two hit day. Konnor Wicklund added two hits and two runs scored himself.
Mason Argir got the start for Brainerd and threw 1 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs on three hits and walked three batters. Colin Kleffman earned the win as the only Brainerd pitcher to not allow a run in his 1 1/3 innings of work.
The next day, Ben Jones ripped a two-RBI triple as a part of Brainerd’s 10-0 win over Cloquet.
Cobly Watland went 2-2 and Hukriede had another three hit game as Brainerd scored 10 or more runs in two straight games.

Broc Peterson went 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Marcus Lennartson got two singles and recorded two RBI himself. Caughey had a three hit day as well against Cloquet’s pitching staff getting three singles.
Eric Martin pitched all six innings for Brainerd. He allowed just one hit and walked one with three strikeouts.
The two games saw Brainerd get 31 hits total and score 23 runs. They stay alive in the loser’s bracket of the Legion MN Sub-State 10A Tournament.
