Area Baseball: Cathedral avenges loss to Flyers

LITTLE FALLS--Singles by Austin Weisz and Justin Jenks were the only two hits the Little Falls Flyers could muster in a 3-0 loss to the St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders in a Granite Ridge Conference game Thursday.

The Flyers stunned Class 2A's top-ranked and two-time defending 2A state champion Crusaders 6-1 Tuesday in St. Cloud. Cathedral had won 58 straight games, the longest streak in the nation, before Tuesday's loss.

Mitch Boros took the loss for the Flyers pitching all seven innings. He struck out nine and walked two while allowing six hits and two earned runs.

PARK RAPIDS-Jake Dykhoff was 3-4 with a double and four RBIs for the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines in a 9-1 non-conference win over Park Rapids Thursday. Preston Warren was 2-3 with two RBIs for the Wolverines who have won seven straight.

Pioneers split with Irish


PIERZ-Aaron Weber and Brett Kapsner both had two hits during Game Two of the Pierz Pioneers' 4-1 Central Minnesota Conference win over the CMC-leading Maple Lake Irish Thursday. Kolton Eischens tallied two RBIs for the Pioneers.

During a 3-2 loss in Game One, Pierz's Teddy Dehler went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double and home run. Losing pitcher Matt Tautges was 2-for-3 at bat and struck out eight with no walks.

PRB's Zach Struss drove in the lone Tiger run. Joe Davidson went the distance on the mound allowing two walks and six hits on four earned runs.
