Area Baseball: Doss' walk-off home run in bottom of 8th lifts Pillager

Crosby-Ironton 11, Aitkin 9

AITKIN-Jonathan Jacobson doubled and scored three runs while going 2-2 and Nate Williams also collected a pair of hits for the Crosby-Ironton Rangers who held off an Aitkin comeback for an 11-9 victory over the Gobblers Thursday in a Mid-State Conference game.

C-I grabbed an early 7-0 lead after two and one-half innings before Aitkin started its rally which ended with the bases loaded.

Zak Peterson and Jon Blanchette led the Gobblers with three hits and three RBIs apiece. Carter Olson and Kyle Cluff contributed multiple hits and Landon Goble doubled.

LITTLE FALLS-Travis Wenzel went 2-3 for the Little Falls Flyers as they fell 4-0 to the Albany Huskies in a Granite Ridge Conference game Thursday.

Wenzel pitched six innings with five strikeouts.

Pioneers split

PIERZ-Peter Schommer and Alec Lochner combined to toss a two-hit 13-0 five-inning shutout for the Pierz Pioneers over the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Lakers in the second game of a Central Minnesota Conference doubleheader Thursday.

Pierz lost the opening game 3-1 with Brandon Dickman collecting the only hit for the Pioneers.


In the second game, Schommer and Lochner each allowed one hit and didn't walk a batter.

Reese Kapsner led the Pioneers at the plate finishing 4-4 with a home run, double, four RBIs and two runs. Schommer was 3-3 with two runs while Dickman added two singles and Jack Suska doubled.

BEMIDJI-Nick Ackerman went 3-4 with a pair of doubles, drove in seven runs and scored three times for the Pine River-Backus Tigers in a 22-5 Northland Conference victory over the Red Lake Warriors Thursday at Bemidji State University.

Brandon Wolske and Torry Hirschey also swung hot bats for the Tigers. Wolske finished 3-4 with a double, triple, four RBIs and three runs. Hirschey was 3-5 with a double and scored four runs.

Champ Howard and winning pitcher George Davidson had two hits each for PRB which led 6-5 after three innings before plating 14 runs in the fourth to ice the game.

STAPLES-James Ehresman turned in three hits for the Staples-Motley Cardinals who defeated the Park Rapids Panthers 9-6 in the second game of a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Thursday.

Thomas Kossan and Josh Kossan had two hits apiece, including a double by Thomas Kossan, in a 9-2 loss in Game One.

LONG PRAIRIE-Luke Wenniger and Jackson Wenniger had multiple hits for the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders in a 9-6 non-conference loss to the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thunder Thursday.

The Raiders tallied four runs to go up 6-5 in the top of the seventh on singles Mack Jones, Tate Bounds, both Wennigers and a Josh Bounds double.

LPGE responded by plating four of its own in the bottom stanza including a three-run walkoff homer by Samuel Olson.
