Area Baseball: Kreklau, W-DC outscores Pillager

Six area baseball teams were in action Thursday, May 20.

DEER CREEK — Wadena-Deer Creek’s Tony Kreklau finished 3-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs for the Wolverines as they beat the Pillager Huskies 8-3 Thursday, May 20.

Kreklau struck out four in four innings of work. Connor Davis went 1-3 with two RBIs for the Wolverines.

Pillager’s Gabe Grimsley went 1-3 with two RBIs while Blake Clark, Griffin Decker and Conner Hanson each recorded a run for the Huskies.

Aitkin 18, Deer River 1

AITKIN — Caiden Kjelstrom went 2-3 with one run and three RBIs and was the winning pitcher allowing only two hits and striking out four in the Aitkin Gobblers 18-1 non-conference victory over Deer River Thursday, May 20.

Hunter Nissen went 2-2 with two runs, a double with two RBIs and Hunter Hills went 1-1 with one run and a double for the Gobblers.

Anton Kalk went 1-2 with two RBIs and a double along with Gus Sanford who went 2-3 with three runs and two RBIs.

Little Falls 7, Milaca 3

LITTLE FALLS — Dane Couture collected four total hits and Spencer Friese and Riley Czech each earned a win as Little Falls defeated Milaca 7-3 and 11-0 in a Granite Ridge Conference doubleheader Thursday, May 20.

The Flyers were outhit by the Wolves 9-8 in the 7-3 Game One win, but Matt Filippi came through with a double and a triple, and Couture was 2-3 with a triple.

In the 11-0 Game Two victory, Zach Gwost, Collin Kray and Couture each knocked out two hits. Filippi, Couture and Kray all tallied two RBI.

Friese pitched four innings and struck out five batters.

PEQUOT LAKES — Clay Erickson went 3-3 with one run, a double with two RBIs for the Pequot Lakes Patriots leading the team to a 3-1 victory against the Greenway Raiders in a non-conference game Thursday, May 20.

Nik Kotaska and Sam Rysavvy each scored a run for Pequot.

ONAMIA — Pine River-Backus’ Irvin Tulenchik went 1-3 with a double, three runs and one RBI for the Tigers as they beat the Onamia Panthers 11-3 Thursday, May 20.

Rian Struss went 1-3 with three RBIs and Konnor King and Nolan Olivier each had two hits and RBI for the Tigers.
