Area Baseball: Nisswa finishes 2-2 at Alex tourney

ALEXANDRIA - Josh Howieson struck out seven and went the distance during the Nisswa Legion's 11-4 victory over Starbuck Saturday in the Alexandria tournament.

ALEXANDRIA - Josh Howieson struck out seven and went the distance during the Nisswa Legion's 11-4 victory over Starbuck Saturday in the Alexandria tournament.

Howieson allowed four runs, two earned, on five hits and six walks. He helped his own cause by going 4-5 with two RBIs and a run scored at the plate. Chris Pederson was 2-4 with a home run and three RBIs and Allen Jevning was 2-4 with a double, RBI and a run.

Nisswa won Saturday's second game against Detroit Lakes 5-3. Pederson finished 2-2 with two walks, two RBIs, two runs and another home run. Bryce Flanagan also had two hits and an RBI for Nisswa, which scored three runs in the sixth to overcome a 3-2 deficit.

Tristan Brecht went the distance on the mound. He struck out one, walked one and allowed no earned runs on six hits. All three Detroit Lakes runs were unearned as Nisswa committed two errors.

Nisswa opened the tournament with a 12-10 loss to North St. Paul.

Tristan Brecht finished 2-3 with two RBIs, a double and a run scored. Evan Brecht went 1-4 with two RBIs and a run scored and Jaden Miller also drove in two runs.

Paul Augustinack was 1-3 with a walk and two runs scored. He also suffered the loss as he gave up nine earned runs on nine hits and three walks.

Chris Pederson pitched six innings in Nisswa's 7-5 loss to Ham Lake in the the second game Friday.

Pederson allowed seven runs, five earned, on eight hits and five walks. He struck out three and was hampered by three Nisswa errors.

Tristan Brecht was 3-4 with a run and an RBI and Pederson was 2-3 with an RBI.
