Area Baseball: Pequot wins, ties with C-I

Nine area teams hit the diamond Thursday, April 29


PEQUOT LAKES — Pequots Lakes’ Nic Kotaska pitched seven innings allowing only five hits, with 11 strikeouts as the Patriots beat the Crosby-Ironton Rangers 9-2 in Game One of a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Thursday, April 29.

Patriots’ Riggs Magnuson was 2-3 with two RBIs and Sam Rysavvy was 1-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Crosby-Ironton’s Dietrich Winegarner recorded a double in Game One, while Carter Holtzleicer was 2-3 with a run for the Rangers.

Game Two between the Patriots and Rangers ended in a 2-2 tie.

LITTLE FALLS — Little Falls’ Collin Kray registered a home run and was 2-2 with five RBIs and three runs for the Flyers as they crushed the Mora Mustangs 18-4 Thursday, April 29 in a Granite Ridge Conference game.

Zach Gwost was 3-5 with three RBIs, two runs and a double for the Flyers.

Riley Czech drove in two runs and Trevor Kloeckl was 2-3 with an RBI.

STAPLES — Payton Bjerga struck out seven for the Staples-Motley Cardinals as they beat Park Rapids 11-3 in Game One of a doubleheader and fell 7-1 in Game Two Thursday, April 29.

Cole Winkels went 3-3 in Game One.

WADENA — Payton Rondestvedt struck out nine and scattered three hits and one walk to pitch the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines to a 4-0 Park Region Conference victory over Menahga Thursday, April 29.

Josh Dykhoff was 2-2 with a run. Tony Krelau was 1-1 with a double, RBI and a run scored.

Evan Lunde drove in a run and Rondestvedt was 1-2 with an RBI for WDC.

Aitkin drops 2

AITKIN — Aitkin’s Jake Ince was 3-3 with three RBIs and a run for the Gobblers as they fell 13-11 to the Detroit Lakes Lakers in Game One of a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Thursday, April 29.

Caiden Kjelstrom pitched three innings in Game One allowing eight hits and striking out two.

Joey Simonson was 1-2 with two runs and an RBI and Owen Miller was 1-3 with two runs scored.

The Gobblers fell 3-2 in Game Two with runs coming from Kjelstrom and Joey Simonson. Simonson collected the lone Aitkin hit.

Tytan Skeesick, Cole Hiltner and Elijah Miller each scored runs and Gabe Grimsley was 2-4 with an RBI.
