Area Baseball: Rangers pick up first win

SANDSTONE-Drew Nordean finished 4-5 with a double, an RBI and three runs to lead the Aitkin Gobblers to a 13-3 Great River Conference victory over East Central Friday.

Jake Westerlund doubled and Dylan Quade was 2-4 with three runs. Jeb Sanford drove in three runs.

Aitkin leads the GRC with a 5-0 record and has four straight wins.

SEBEKA-Mack Jones was 3-4 with two RBIs for the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders, who snapped a five-game losing streak with a 10-4 Park Region Conference win over Sebeka Friday.

Jones also pitched the final two innings in relief of winning pitcher Luke Weniger as the two combined for the shutout.

Weniger and Mitch Blaha had two hits apiece.

WADENA-Preston Warren drove in a run on a sacrifice fly as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines made it eight straight with a 2-1 win over New York Mills in a Park Region Conference game Friday.


Relief pitcher Jake Dykhoff picked up the win striking out nine, walking none and didn't allow a hit or run over 3.1 innings. He was 1-3 with a double and an RBI.

The Wolverines have gone undefeated since a season-opening 2-1 loss to Parkers Prairie.

Osakis sweeps Staples-Motley

OSAKIS-Trey Skeesick went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Staples-Motley during Game One of its doubleheader with the Osakis Silverstreaks.

S-M lost 13-2 in Game One. In Game Two, Skeesick and Tristan Rudenick collected the two Cardinals hits in their 10-0 loss.
