Area Baseball: W-DC gets win over BHV

Eight area teams hit the diamond Tuesday, May 11

WADENA — Tony Kreklau was the winning pitcher along with going 3-4 with a double and four RBIs as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines won 17-5 against the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders in a Park Region Conference game Tuesday, May 11.

Josh Dykoff went 3-4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs. Zack Shaw was 3-4 with three runs and two RBIs for the Wolverines.

Connor Davis also tallied three hits with two runs and three RBIs.

For the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders, Cameron Mitchell went 1-2 with two runs and Torii Hagen also with two runs.

Aden Rach was 2-3 with two RBIs along with Kobe Hinzmann who went 1-2 with two RBIs.

Crosby-Ironton 9, Rush City 4

RUSH CITY — Connor Zender ripped a double and tallied two RBIs leading the Crosby-Ironton Rangers to a 9-4 win against the Rush City Tigers Tuesday, May 11.

Carter Holtzleicer also hit a double and tallied one run.

Cameron Durant scored a run and notched two RBIs and Dietrich Winegarner also had two RBIs.

Nicholas Yaeger was the winning pitcher and allowed zero hits with two strikeouts in two innings piched.

Pine River-Backus 12, Cass Lake-Bena 2

PINE RIVER — Irvin Tulenchik went 5-5 with a triple and Trevor Redding finished 3-4 with a double and a triple in a 12-2 win for Pine River-Backus over Cass Lake-Bena in a Northland Conference game Tuesday, May 11.

Rian Struss collected three hits including a double as the Tigers improved to 11-3 overall.

Corbin Knapp gave up two runs on three hits over six innings to record the win.

Pequot Lakes wins 2

PEQUOT LAKES — Nic Kotaska tallied two hits and two RBIs in two five-innings games as the Pequot Lakes Patriots swept North Woods in a doubleheader 6-0 and 4-3 Tuesday, May 11.

Both of Kotaska’s hits came in Game One. Grant Loge earned the win in Game One and tallied five strikeouts.

Andrew Villareal went 1-2 with a RBI and scored the winning run for Pequot Lakes in Game Two.

Erik Larsen got the win in Game Two and tallied seven strikeouts in five innings.

PIERZ — Pierz’s Michael Leidenfrost was 3-4 with two runs for the Pioneers as they beat the Milaca Wolves 4-1 Tuesday, May 11, in a Granite Ridge Conference game.

Jeremy Bingesser was 1-2 with three runs for the Pioneers. Andrew Winscher pitched six innings and struck out 11 while allowing seven hits and one run for Pierz.

LITTLE FALLS — Little Falls’ Matt Filippi and Dane Couture each went 1-3 with one run scored for the Flyers as they fell 8-4 to the Foley Falcons Tuesday, May 11, in a Granite Ridge Conference game.

Zach Gwost was 1-4 with a run for the Flyers. Spenser Friese also scored a run for Little Falls.
