Area Boys Basketball: Flyers use free throw line to beat Cathedral

Five area boys basketball teams took to the court Thursday, Jan. 28.

LITTLE FALLS — Austin Neu scored 13 points and Zach Gwost was next with 12 in a 64-54 win for Little Falls in a Granite Ridge Conference game against St. Cloud Cathedral Thursday, Jan. 28.

The Flyers shot 31 free throws for the game, converting on 21 to finish at 68%.

Lake Region wins 2

ANKENNY, Iowa — Lake Region’s Phil Imdieke recorded nine points and 16 rebounds as the Hornets defeated Fourth Baptist 55-34 and he tallied 14 points and nine rebounds in their 47-37 win over First Baptist Thursday, Jan. 28, in the opening rounds of the Faith Baptist Bible College Tournament.

Trey Ogren added 16 points for Lake Region against Fourth Baptist. Logan Backstrom posted 11 points against First Baptist.

PIERZ — Pierz’s Michael Leidenfrost recorded 12 points for the Pioneers as they fell 70-42 to Class 2A’s 12th-ranked Mora Mustangs Thursday, Jan. 28, in a Granite Ridge Conference game.

Pierz held a 29-27 halftime lead, but Mora outscored Pierz 43-12 in the second half.
