Area Boys Basketball: Verndale wins Park Region

VERNDALE--Mac Schluttner's 23 points pushed him past the 1,000 career mark and helped the Verndale Pirates win the Park Region Conference with Tuesday's 73-44 victory over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines.

VERNDALE-Mac Schluttner's 23 points pushed him past the 1,000 career mark and helped the Verndale Pirates win the Park Region Conference with Tuesday's 73-44 victory over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines.

It's the first conference win for Verndale in 32 seasons.

Schluttner becomes the eighth player in program history to reach 1,000 and the first since Dallas Ehrmantraut in 2013.

Jordan Brownlow added 14 points and Tyler Willis scored nine for Verndale, which improved to 12-1 in the conference.

DETROIT LAKES-Jack Silgen scored 21 and Noah Gindorff finished with 18 points, 26 rebounds and six blocks, but the Crosby-Ironton Rangers suffered their first Mid-State Conference loss with Tuesday's 74-70 defeat to Detroit Lakes.

It was DL's 10th-straight victory. The Lakers haven't lost since C-I beat them 78-68 Jan. 13.

The loss snaps C-I's three-game win streak, but the Rangers already wrapped up the conference title last week.

Trey Jacobs tallied 16 points and Jonathan Jacobson scored 12 for the Rangers.
