Area Boys Golf: Erhotlz goes really low to lead Cardinals

Five area teams were in action, including C-I/A in the final round of the Section 7-2A tournament

EAST GULL LAKE — A bogey on the par 3 seventh hole was the only blemish on the card of Staples-Motley senior Beck Erholtz who fired a 6-under 66 to lead the Cardinals to a team title in the Section 6-2A tuneup Tuesday, June 1, at Cragun’s Legacy Courses.

Erholtz finished with seven birdies, including four birdies and five pars on the back nine, to pace the field by six strokes.

Cater White and Grant Bestland tied for 10th with 82s.

Tyler Seeling finished fourth with a 75 to lead the Pequot Lakes Patriots to a tie for third with St. Cloud Cathedral.

Logan Herold finished fifth individually for the fifth-place Pierz Pioneers. Tyler Theis fired an 83 for 13th place. Lance Otremba tied Pequot’s Anthony Armstrong for 15th with 84s.

Ben Rekstad was the top Little Falls Flyer as fired a 17th-place 85 for the eighth-place Flyers.

Meyers earn top 20 finishes

BIWABIK — Crosby-Ironton/Aitkin’s Will Meyer fired a two-day 170 to land in the top 15 of the Section 7-2A Tournament Tuesday, June 1 at Giants Ridge Resort.

It wasn’t good enough to advance to the Class 2A state tournament, but the sophomore followed up his opening round 87 with an 83 Tuesday to finish in 14th place.

Older brother Frank Meyer finished with a two-round 176 to land in a tie for 16th and Tyler Bill shot a 198 for 38th place.
