Area Boys Hockey: Couture, Flyers blank Storm

LITTLE FALLS — Little Falls’ goalie Dane Couture was perfect in goal as Class 1A’s 10th-ranked Flyers blanked the Sauk Rapids Storm 8-0 non-conference match Friday, Feb. 7.

Couture turned aside the only six shots he faced while Little Falls peppered the Sauk Rapids goal with 42 shots.

Ryan Buckallew and Gunnar Gustafson each netted a pair of goals for the Flyers. Robby Kuchinski-Helgeson, Joe Majerle, Hayden Johnson and Marshall Anez added single goals.

The Flyers capitalized on three of four power-play opportunities.

DETROIT LAKES —Northern Lakes’ goalie Adler Hoagland recorded 20 saves on 23 shots as the Lightning fell 3-0 to the Detroit Lakes Lakers Friday, Feb. 7, in a Mid-State Conference matchup.

Detroit Lakes beat the Lightning 4-2 Dec. 3 and with Friday’s win claimed the Mid-State Conference title with a 6-1 record. Northern Lakes entered the game with a one-point advantage, but fall to second with a 5-2-1 record.

Fergus Falls 8, Wadena-DC 1

FERGUS FALLS — Wadena-Deer Creek’s John Oberg recorded the only goal of the game for the Wolverines as they fell 8-1 to the Fergus Falls Otters Friday, Feb. 7.

Oberg was assisted in the second period by Chase Domier and Lleyten Pettit. Wolverine goalie Josh Dykhoff recorded 29 saves in the Section 6-1A matchup.
