Area Boys Hockey: Donovan's hat trick leads Lightning

WADENA--Shane Donovan scored a hat trick including the final two goals of the game that gave the Northern Lakes Lightning a 6-4 Mid-State Conference win over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines Friday, Jan. 25.

WADENA-Shane Donovan scored a hat trick including the final two goals of the game that gave the Northern Lakes Lightning a 6-4 Mid-State Conference win over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines Friday, Jan. 25.

WD-C took a 2-0 first-period lead with goals from Lleyton Pettit and Max Phillips.

Northern Lakes went up 3-2 in the second on Donovan's first goal plus scores from Caiden Kjelstrom and Kyler Couture. Phillips tied the score 3-3 with his second goal just before the break.

After John Oberg put W-DC back on top less than a minute into the third, the Lightning netted the next three goals led off by Hunter Nybakken. Donovan put Northern Lakes up for good at 13:43 and added an empty-netter to complete his hat trick.

Northern Lakes outshot the Wolverines 34-29. Adler Hoagland collected 25 saves for the Lightning and Josh Dykhoff 28 for W-DC.
