MONTICELLO-The eighth-seeded Northern Lakes Lightning hung in with the top-seeded Monticello Moose for two periods before being eliminated 8-3 in Thursday's Section 5-1A quarterfinal.
Goals by Lucas Cartie and Kasey Couture knotted the score 2-2 in the first, only to see Monticello's Troy Dahlheimer slip in a short-hander to put the Moose up 3-2 at the first intermission.
Garrett Westlund made good on a power play in the second period to keep Northern Lakes close at 5-3.
Monticello buried three unanswered goals, while outshooting the Lightning 16-4 in the third, to seal the win with a 55-22 total shots-on-goal advantage.
Goalie Jake Arnold recorded 47 saves for Northern Lakes.
