Area Football: 9 Warriors land on all-area team

Three state tournament participants and another team that advanced to a section final highlight this year's Brainerd Dispatch All-Area Football Team.

Three state tournament participants and another team that advanced to a section final highlight this year's Brainerd Dispatch All-Area Football Team.

Brainerd, which advanced to the Section 8-5A final, landed nine players on this year's 24-player roster. Pierz, which advanced to the Class 3A state semifinals and finished the season 11-1 and was ranked No. 1 in the state all season, landed four players while Pillager and Verndale, both state qualifying teams, each had three selections.

Players for the Dispatch All-Area Team are nominated by their coaches and then selected by the Dispatch Sports Department.

All-area team

Andrew Ecklund, Aitkin

Senior, DE-OT

The All-Northeast Blue Subdistrict and Minnesota Football Coaches Association All-Star Game selection helped Aitkin rush for 1,902 yards and 22 touchdowns and pass for 799 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Defensively, he finished with 47 tackles (17 solo, 30 assists), 8 tackles for loss and 3 sacks.

Quin Miller, Aitkin

Senior, QB-LB

The All-Northeast Blue Subdistrict player threw for 799 yards and 9 touchdowns on 57-of-125 passing (45.6 percent). He rushed for 523 yards and 7 touchdowns on 119 carries (4.4 yards per carry).

Defensively, he finished with 73 tackles (15 solo, 58 assists), 2 sacks, 2 tackles for loss and one fumble recovery.

Braden Kramer, Brainerd

Finished with 118 tackles, 7 interceptions, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and 8 pass breakups.

He rushed 6 times for 41 yards (6.83 yards per carry) and caught 1 pass for 20 yards and was 1-2 passing for 8 yards and a touchdown.

He returned 19 kickoffs for 437 yards (23.0 yards per return) and a touchdown.

Defensively he finished with 18 tackles, 2 interceptions and 18 pass breakups.

The All-Mid-State Subdistrict 1 Offensive Back of the Year and All-Section 6-3A selection rushed for 1,796 yards on 162 yards (11.1 yards-per-carry average) and 24 touchdowns. He caught seven passes for 147 yards (21.0 yards per reception) and 1 touchdown.

He returned seven punts for 187 yards (26.7 yards per return) and a touchdown. He returned four kickoffs for 126 yards (31.5 yards-per-return average) and a touchdown.

Defensively he finished with 56 tackles (37 solo, 19 assists), 1 tackle for loss, 1 fumble recovery, 5 pass breakups and 6 interceptions returning 2 for touchdowns.

The All-Mid-State Subdistrict 1 Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year and All-Section 6-3A selection helped Pierz rush for 4,267 and 67 touchdowns and throw for 714 yards and 9 touchdowns.

The All-Midwest Blue Subdistrict Special Team Player of the Year and All-Section 6-2A selection rushed for 1,275 yards on 157 carries (8.1 yards per carry) and 16 touchdowns. He caught 22 passes for 374 yards (17.0 yards per reception) and 5 touchdowns and was 1-for-1 passing for 22 yards.
