PIERZ - Lane Girtz and Noah Boser each scored two rushing touchdowns as Pierz blanked Melrose 34-0 in a storm-delayed Mid-State Subdistrict 1 game Friday.
Michael Meyer hauled in a 47-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Weber for Pierz's other score.
Pierz's defense held Melrose to 78 yards of total offense, while the Pioneers managed 411 yards. Girlz finished with 120-yards on 15 carries and Boser posted 100 yards on 16 carries. Nick Herold rushed seven times for 89 yards.
Derick Hall intercepted a pass for Class 3A's third-ranked Pioneers and Brett Kapsner led Pierz with six solo tackles and five assisted tackles.
"Our lines controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball," said Pierz head coach Leo Pohlkamp. "It was just a great team effort against an excellent team. We held Melrose to just one first down and 22 yards in the second half."
