Area Girls Basketball: Gobblers collect first win of season

AITKIN — Rae Nyberg scored a game-high 20 points for the Aitkin Gobblers who picked up their first win of the season in overtime, 70-65 over the Ashby Arrows in the first round of the Aitkin Quarterbacks Club Tournament Friday, Dec. 27.

Teagan Piecek contributed 17 points for the Gobblers and Ally Enstrom added 14.

Aitkin plays Braham 5 p.m. Saturday for the championship. Braham defeated Nevis 48-46 in the other opening-round game.

All Saturday games in Aitkin have been moved ahead two hours because of pending weather.

Jamie Johnson added 10 points in the third-place game of the MIB tournament.

Hirschey was named to the all-tournament team.
