Area Girls Basketball: Pierz posts 10-point win over Flyers

Seven area girls basketball teams were in action Thursday, March 4.

LITTLE FALLS — Emily Dehler’s 20 points and 10 rebounds propelled Pierz to a 54-44 Granite Ridge Conference win over Little Falls Thursday, March 4.

Courtney Strohmeier tallied 16 points and Alissa Girtz added 10 as Pierz won for the third straight time and posted a regular-season sweep of Little Falls. The Pioneers topped Little Falls 58-30 Feb. 4.

The Flyers were led by Taylor Jordan’s 23 points and Kendal Swantek’s 12 points.

BERTHA — Juliana Ewald’s 15 points lifted the Pillager Huskies to a 66-30 Park Region Conference win over Bertha-Hewitt Thursday, March 4.

It was the fifth straight win for the Huskies who beat the Bears 66-22 Jan. 22.

MOUNTAIN IRON — Karlie Nixon recorded 15 points and Tori Oehrlein followed with 12, but Class 2A’s 13th-ranked Crosby-Ironton Rangers fell to Class 1A’s seventh-ranked Mountain Iron-Buhl Rangers 73-56 in a non-conference game Thursday, March 4.

The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for C-I.

MINNEAPOLIS — Amber Neubert tallied 11 points for the No. 5 seeded Lake Region Christian Hornets as they fell 30-29 to No. 8 Heritage Thursday, March 4, in the Minnesota Association of Christian Schools state consolation semifinals.

Emma Moore added six points for the Hornets while Nikole Thorson recorded six rebounds.
