DULUTH-A two-pointer from under the basket by junior Jamie Nelson with 10 seconds remaining lifted the No. 3 seeded Crosby-Ironton Rangers to a 48-46 victory over the No. 4 seeded Proctor Rails in the semifinals of the Class 7-2A tournament Tuesday at UMD.

A three-point attempt by Proctor at the end was partially blocked by Shyanne Loiland sending C-I to the 7-2A finals 7 p.m. Friday at UMD against top-seed Esko which defeated International Falls 73-47 in the other section semifinal. Esko beat C-I 62-46 Dec. 12, the fifth-straight loss for the Rangers at the start of the season.

Nelson finished with a team-high 25 points and had eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Mariah Bodle added 10 points and while Loiland was held to a season low four points, she contributed nine rebounds and the key block at the end.

Both teams entered the contest with 16-12 records, C-I holding a No. 37 QRF rank and Proctor a No. 43 rank in Class 2A. The Rangers defeated the Rails 58-53 in overtime Dec. 29.
