Area Girls Basketball: W-DC knocks out Cardinals

WADENA — Wadena-Deer Creek’s Madison Carsten tallied 18 points for the No. 8 seeded Wolverines as they beat the No. 9 seeded Staples-Motley Cardinals 63-45 in the Section 8-2A play-in Friday, Feb. 21.

Kennedy Gravelle added 16 points for the Wolverines and Lauryn Gravelle contributed 13.

Staples-Motley’s Kaitlyn Smith and Elizabeth Danilyuk each totaled 11 points for the Cardinals, which finish the season 7-19.

PINE RIVER — Riley Hirschey led the Pine River-Backus Tigers with 15 points in a 56-47 non-conference win over the Pillager Huskies Friday, Feb. 21.

Ramsey Tulenchik added 14 points and Olivia Adkins had 13 for the Tigers.

AITKIN — Aitkin’s Teagan Piecek recorded 27 points for the Gobblers as they secured their second win of the season, defeating Ogilvie 78-65 Friday, Feb. 21.

Ally Ehnstrom hit five 3-pointers to finish with 22 points helping the Gobblers snap a 17-game losing streak.
