SAUK RAPIDS - Kylee Heurung led all scorers with 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as the Brainerd Warriors played great defense in defeating the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm 51-38 on Friday.

Katy Johnson totaled 14 points and seven rebounds and Jenna Degen collected 11 points moving the Warriors to 9-5 in conference play.

The Warriors swept the season series from the Storm as they defeated them 68-56 on Jan. 13.

"The girls played great defense tonight. We switched up our defenses and did a good job executing all of them," said Brainerd head coach Troy Nelson. "We also did a nice job on the boards. They played a zone for most of the game, and we did a good job of being patient and taking what they gave us.

"Before the game we talked about going on a run and playing good basketball going into sections. This was a great step and we will look to keep it going on Monday (at St. Cloud Apollo)."
