BEMIDJI-Alex Stone of Pequot Lakes, ranked third in Class 2A, was the top golfer among area competitors with a 76 to tie for first place after the first round of the Section 8-2A tournament Monday at Bemidji Town and Country Club.
The Patriots' Anna Krieger shot an 86 and stands in 10th place.
McKayla Woods scored the low round for Wadena-Deer Creek with an 87, putting her in 12th place. Jess Rondestvedt finished with a 90 and Gabi Ross 91 for the Wolverines.
Pequot Lakes is in fifth place after the first round of team competition.
All golfers will compete in the final round Tuesday with the top team, currently Detroit Lakes, and the top five individuals not on the top team, advancing to the Class 2A state tournament.

SARTELL-Paced by 92s from Alix Peterson and Bo Erholtz, the Staples-Motley Cardinals were in second place after the first round of the Section 6-2A tournament Monday at Blackberry Ridge Golf Club.
The Cardinals were 18 shots off the pace set by first-place Osakis' 370.

The top four teams after Day One advance to Day Two. The top eight individuals not on of those teams advance to Day Two. Included in that group are Pierz's Katie LeBlanc with a 91 and teammate Kami Athman with a 97.
