BLAINE-Caitlyn Gutzman recorded a hat trick and Savannah Abear scored the other two goals for the Northern Lakes Lightning who defeated the St. Paul/Henry Sibley Riveters 5-2 for seventh place in the Open American Division of the Schwan Cup Friday, Dec. 28.
Abear scored the first two goals for the Lightning who took a 2-1 lead into the third period where Gutzman tallied all three of her scores, the last into an empty net that beat the final buzzer.
Northern Lights outshot the Riveters 32-22 with goalie Kate Stephens stopping 20 shots.
