Area Girls Tennis: Pequot perfect in the Mid-State

PEQUOT LAKES--Megan Muller captured 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to improve her personal record to 22-3 overall and lead the Patriots to a 6-1 win over the Park Rapids Panthers Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Courtney Boller is 25-1 at No. 3 singles and Afton Crocker is 26-1 at No. 3 doubles.

The Patriots finished the year 5-0 in the Mid State Conference and haven't lost since an Aug. 20 defeat by the Osakis Silverstreaks.

LONG PRAIRIE-Pierz's Halle Zupan defeated Mariah Kirschbaum 6-4, 6-1 as the Pioneers defeated the Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thunder 4-3 Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Zupan was the only singles winner as Pierz swept the doubles. The teams of Laura Skiba-Becky Langer, Abby Andrea-Kalyn Gritzmacher and Katelyn Smude-Kami Athman were all winners.

STAPLES-Staples-Motley's Tasha Achermann battled for a win over Maddie Thorfinnson of Minnewaska at No. 4 singles as the Cardinals fell to the Lakers 5-2 Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Achermann outlasted Maddie Thorfinnson 4-6, 7-5, 11-9 for the win. S-M's No. 2 doubles pair of Haley Cichos-Keara Kern won 6-1, 6-0.

PINE CITY -Aitkin's Kelsi Welle and Sophia Ryan picked up six game points in their No. 3 doubles loss Tuesday, Oct. 2 in the Gobblers 7-0 loss to Pine City.

The Gobblers finished the season 0-13 and will open the Section 7-1 team tournament at Virginia.
