FARGO-Kelsi Peterson of Staples-Motley and Abby Westrum from Wadena-Deer Creek are the only two area players advancing to Saturday's semifinals and finals following Friday's opening rounds of the Section 8-1A Individual Tournament at Courts Plus.
Fourth-seeded Peterson defeated her Parkers Prairie opponent 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round and eliminated Perham's fifth-seeded Brianna Schwantz 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinal match. She'll face top-seeded Jodi Ostroski from Roseau in the semifinals 9 a.m. Saturday.
Westrum was seeded sixth and also won both of her matches including a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Perham's third-seeded Makayla Melvin in the quarterfinals. Westrum will square off against No. 2 Nordin Kinkel at 9 a.m. Saturday.
In doubles play, No. 4 seeded Claire Wolhowe-Anna Willgohs from SM and No. 8 Lindy Jones-Marleen Gari from WDC won their opening matches before being eliminated in the quarterfinals.
