Area Golf: Emily Israelson highlights group of area golfers at Birchmont

Staples native Emily Israelson won the women’s championship division of the Birchmont Golf Tournament. The match play bracket tournament with 32 different divisions was played July 22-27 at Bemidji Town and Country Club.

She was able to finish out the final match on the 16th hole winning the match 3-2 for her third Birchmont title. Emily’s younger brother Andrew Israelson lost in the semifinals of the men’s championship division 2-1. Zach Israelson won his first match, but lost in the second round of the men’s championship division.

Staples native Brad Anderson won the executive championship division of the Birchmont Golf Tournament.

Jack Evans, from East Gull Lake, finished second in the vice-president flight of the Birchmont Golf Tournament in the men’s division. In his first round match, he defeated his brother Cody Evans 1 up. Cody went on to win one match in the consolation bracket.

Crosslake native John McEnroe won his first match in the senior championship division in 19 holes. After losing in his second match, he went on to place second in the consolation bracket of the senior championship division.

Glen Hasselberg, from Staples, placed second in the master’s championship division losing in the final 6-5.

Pine River native Brady Raph won the junior championship division winning the final 5-4.

The Birchmont Golf Tournament will be played July 27-Aug 1 in 2020.
