Area Golf: Mills, American National deadlocked at top

Matt Ruis and Ian Ulrich both collected eight points for Mills GM helping it claim a 26.5-17.5 victory June 23 against Halverson Law Office and secure a tie for the lead in the men's standings at Cragun's Legacy Courses.

Mills GM is tied with American National, who dispatched last week's leader Von Hanson's Meats 24.5-19.5.

Both teams hold a 1.5-point lead over Big wood, which scored the big win, by beating Shep's on 6th 28.5-15.5.

Legacy women

Sandy Bauman was closest to the pin and helped her team of Pam Muscielewicz and Nadine Fraki win the June 21 event for women's night at Cragun's Legacy Courses.

Lori Rich and Heather Carey made the longest putts and Jami Wallgren smacked the longest drive on the Dutch Legacy,

On the Par 3, the team of Lisa Ritter, Laura Boeckermann and Colleen Bratney placed first. Bonnie Brandon was closest to the pin and Becky Bennett made the longest putt.

Breezy Point men

Double Trouble and Pequot Tool 2 both won June 22, but Double Trouble defeated Commander 11-7 to rise into a tie for first place in the Breezy Point Resort men's league standings.

Pequot Tool 2 defeated Ace Hardware 9.5-8.5.

Pequot Tool 1 topped DDJ 11.5-6.5 to climb to 1.5 points off the lead.

Colleen Rawlings, Ruth Klukow, Peggy Gustafson, Betty Huseby shot 36 for second followed by Sandy O'Day, Connie Colon and Cindy Buxton in third.

Whitefish men

Bob Beatty captured the Flight A title in the June 21 individual net event in the Whitefish men's league.

Dick Femrite and Don Skalman followed Beatty.

Jim Thompson won Flight B with Jim Wodziak in second and Gary Amundson third.

Ed Bontrager led the field in Flight C. Duane Ambuhl was second and Dean Brandt third.

Jim Thompson and Keith Bettes were closest to the pin. Darrell Swanson and Wodziak made the longest putts.

Whitefish women

Joan Hasskamp and Debra Enger claimed the inaugural Northwoods Classic June 22 at the Whitefish Golf Club.

The all-women event substituted for the Whitefish women's 18-hole league and was a two-person best ball format. Hasskamp and Enger shot a net 60 to win Flight A. Dorie Kaleva and Susan Walstrom shot 61 for second.

Rox Thompson and Pam Musielewicz shot the day's low round of 57 to win Flight B. Margo Sodahl and Mary Spolarich shot 62 for second.

Betsy and Sabra Otteson drove all the way from Edina to win Flight C with a net 59. Enga Wodziak and Mary Kay Kendall were second.

Judy Eastwood and Ginnie Sitzer shot 64 for the Flight D title. Cathy Switajewski and Lila Kersey placed second with 65.

Longest putt winners were Christine Barnes and Sheryl Bontrager. Longest drives were hit by Jean Collins and Rox Thompson. Joan Hasskamp and Paula Gulliford were closest to the pin and Shirley Olsen and Eastwood were closest to the line.

Birdies were abundant. Making them were Barb Holubar, Enga Wodziak, Deb Enger, Joan Hasskamp (5 biridies), Margo Sodahl, Christine Barnes, Kathy Green and Karen Cochran.

Chip ins were recorded by Barb Hanson, Mimi Swanson, Helen McGrath and Hasskamp.

Black Bear Women

Eileen Springer, Gloria Taylor and Donna Balzer won the dice game June 23 in the Black Bear Golf Course women's league.

Dorla Lind, Cathy Switajewski and Susan Riley placed second. Lind's 15 putts were the low number for the day.

Eagle's Landing scramble

Doug Petrie and Vic Sofie were the low gross and Bill Andres and Roger Janson the low net June 20 for the Monday Night Scramble at Eagle's Landing golf Club.

Jeff Schultz and Bryan Hill were second in the gross division. Finishing second in net were Mitch McLain and Shawn McLain with Keith Janson and Greg Stangl were third.

Mitch McLain and Jim Einerson were closest to the pin. Einerson also made the longest putt and Wyatt Carr was closest on his second shot.

Eagle's Landing men

Billy Indihar shot a 75 for the 18-hole low gross June 23 in the Eagle's Landing men's league.

Larry Paige and Mike Caughey each shot 76s and Carl Hendrickson and Brett Thompson shot 77s.

Bryan Hill and Pete Balaski carded net 61s for the low on 18 holes with Gerard Kroll shooting 62.

Mike Weber's 35 was the low gross for nine holes. Steve Johnson and Joe Bachan shot 42s.

Chad Ploof and Al Arnoldy shot net 31s and Bob Heldt a 32 for low nets on nine holes.

Tom Tuil and Steve Johnson (hole-in-one) were closest to the hole winners. Indihar and Caughey were closest second shot winners and Mike Stanek made the longest putt.

Eagle's Landing women

Jean Mahling drained the longest putt during women's night June 22 at Eagle's Landing Golf Club.

Laura Newman and Margie Thesing were closest to the pin and Theresa Goble smacked the longest drive.

Fairways at Howard's Barn

Marlene Miller sank the longest putt in the June 14 guest day scramble for the women's league at Howard's Barn.

Miller and Mac Curtis also had chip ins during the June 21 dice game, but it was Curtis, Helen Silva and Gloria Meidinger who claimed first place.

Howard's Barn will host the July 19 Triangle event with Crosswoods and Emily Greens. Check in is 8:30 a.m..

GVL Outing results

Katie Wallace, Jeff Boozell, Candace Prigge and Steve Lesser shot a 35 to win the June 21 Coed Outing at The Preserve at Grand View Lodge.

Doug and Vicki Dypwick teamed with Gene and Carol Lovro to place second. Doreen Robideau, Steph Murrey and Joni Meyer finished third.

Tom and Donna Motzko and Bob and Chris Lee were fourth.

Tom Motzko made the longest putt and Jeff Boozell was closest to the pin.

Chamber tourney

The 27th annual Little Falls Chamber golf outing is scheduled for 11 a.m. July 11 at the Little Falls Country Club.

Teams that register before June 30 receive a $40 discount. The four-person scramble includes; 18-holes of golf, cart, two beverages, boxed lunch, ice cream, door prizes and a steak dinner.

For non-golfers, the steak dinner is $12.

The Northern Lakes Youth Hockey Association will host its second annual golf tournament 1 p.m. Aug. 28 at Deacon's Lodge in Breezy Point.

Israelson second, Stone, Pilot place

Emily Israelson of The Vintage at Staples and college teammate Sierra Langlie shot a two-day 135 to place second in the 37th Minnesota Women's State Amature Four-Ball championship June 21-22 at Somerby Golf Club.

Israelson-Langlie were six shots off the winners of Sabrine Garrison and Heather Ciskowski.

Savannah Stone of Crosswoods golf Course and teammate Rachel Gray placed fifth with a two-day 141.

Finishing tied for ninth were Claudia Pilot of Grand View Lodge and Brenda Williams.

Holes-in-one

Brian Cameron, St. Cloud, aced the 157-yard 15the hole at Eagle's Landing Golf Club June 20 using a 5-iron.

Steve Johnson, Brainerd, aced the 157-yard 15the hole at Eagle's Landing Golf Club June 23 using a 7-iron.
