WILLMAR — Brainerd High School graduate Jack Evans of Grand View Lodge fired a 1-under 71 Tuesday, June 23 at Eagle Creek Golf Club to finish tied for fifth and qualify for the MGA Amateur Championship.
Evans went out in 36 with two birdies to offset two bogeys. He closed out his round with back-to-back birdies to finish with a 35 for his 71.
Danny Anderson of Eagle Creek Golf Club fired a 69 for medalist honors.
The championship will be held July 13-15 at Edina Country Club.

Whitefish men
PEQUOT LAKES — Bob Beatty, Jim Thompson, Mike Mooney and Mike Carnahan won the foursome vs. field event Tuesday, June 23, for the Whitefish Golf Club men’s league.
Arlen Stensby, Ric Rowe, Kirk Mahlen and Fred Skog placed second followed by Steve Bloom, Ron Kitzmann, Bill Carlson and Chuck Hicks.
Thompson and Rowe picked up closest to the pin proximities and John Rappath and Tom Baker sank the longest putts.
On June 16, Frank Roedl was the individual low net winner for the first flight. Roger Jensen was second and Thomas Boyce placed third.
Jim Bydlon captured the second flight with Bill Bell in second and Mike Einan in third.
Bruce Rickert was the third flight winner. Chuck Hicks finished second and Sam Kantos third.
Rickert and Arlen Stensby were closest to the pin winners and Bill Carlson made the longest putt and Jim Thompson was closest to the pin in two shots.

Whitefish women
PEQUOT LAKES — Barb Holubar was the first flight winner of the low net on odd-numbered holes Wednesday, June 17, for the Whitefish Women’s 18-hole league.
Teresa Nelson finished second and Barb Hanson third.
Maxine Riches won the second flight followed by Pam Musielewicz and Nancy Schmidt. Sherrie Adam captured the third flight. Betsy Otteson was second and Virgnia Sitzer placed third.
Adam was the low individual net winner with a 69. Pat Kline, Adam, Nancy McEnroe and Pat Mckee all carded birdies.

Chamber tourney scheduled
The 31st annual Brainerd Lakes Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic is scheduled for 7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at The Pines at Grand View Lodge in Nisswa
Entry fees are $215 for individuals, $850 for chamber member teams and $950 for non-chamber member teams. Entry fees include breakfast, practice facilities, golf, lunch on the course and chances to win prizes.
Teams that register before July 17 will receive four 18-hole rounds of fall golf at The Pines.

Becky Butcher, Brainerd, aced the 90-yard seventh hole of Bobby’s Legacy at Cragun’s Legacy Courses June 14 using a pitching wedge.
