Giovanni's Pizza recaptured the lead in the men's league at Cragun's Legacy Courses with a 30-14 victory over Edward Jones July 26.

Giovanni's and Von Hanson's Meats entered league play tied for the top spot. Von Hanson's slid into second place despite a 27.5-16.5 win over Reichert Bus.

The Tee Hive moved into third place with a 31-13 win over Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union.

Breezy Point women

Joi Brandt, Sue Marsolais, Joan Burnett and Bugs Schmidt teamed up to shoot a 34 and pace the ace, king, queen, jack game during the Breezy Point women's golf league July 26.

Second was the team of Sandy O'Day, Verna Miller and Kathy McTague with a 38.

Tying for third with 39s were Team One of Barb Owens, Judy Thomas, Connie Colon and Betty Huseby and Team Two of Gloria Thomas, Martha Polsfuss, Polly Aumock and Judy Jenson.

League play Thursday, Aug., 2 will be at the Traditional Course.

Whitefish women

Lori McCormick, Barb Holubar, Pat McKee and Cheryl Bontrager teamed up to win via tie breaker the cha cha cha game of the day in the Whitefish women's 18-hole league July 25.

The three top teams all scored 126 points, and the USGA tiebreaker was applied. Second place went to the team of Helen McGrath, Mimi Swanson, Dorie Kaleva and Myra Faust. Third-place team was Pat Kline, Connie Weber, Pam Musielewicz and Sandy Meyer.

McCormick and McGrath each shot net 67s to tie for honors. Ginny Sitzer, Bontrager, Kaleva and Meyer earned honorable mention with a net 69.

McGrath and Marty Moakley had chip-in birdies on No. 6 and Deb Enger chipped in for birdie on No. 7. McGrath also carded a birdie on No. 8. Anne Gazda and Darlene Bonnema recorded the other chip-ins.

The first two Wednesdays in August will be regular league play, followed by the 2-day league championships Aug 14-15 and the Women of Whitefish (WOW) and Cause Day, which is a fundraiser for the Mid-Minnesota Women's Center. Shootout qualifying and team match play will continue into August.

New members are always welcome.

Putting champions

Greg Larson and Roger Miller posted a 39 to win the sixth-annual Minnesota State Putting Championship at Grand View Lodge.

Larson and Miller needed a scorecard playoff to top jack and Nick Michel and Ben Bailey and Phil McSorley, who also shot 39s.

Max and Barry Labine placed fourth with a 41 followed by Gordy Johnson-Jim McArthur, Clinton Strother-Erick Holland, Preston Luman-Randy Wilson and tim Johnson and Jacob Kleke.

Heggerston ties for 12th

Maggie Heggerston of Cragun's Legacy Courses tied for 12th place in the MGA Women's Amateur Championship at White Bear Yacht Club July 25.

Heggerston finished with a 9-over-par 231 following rounds of 76-77-78.

Claudia Pilot of The Pines at Grand View Lodge placed 30th with rounds of 83-81-78 for a 242 total.

Holes-in-one

Stuart Rauvola, Stillwater, aced the 198-yard 12th hole at Madden's Classic July 23 using a 4 hybrid.

William Gifford, Glyndon, aced the 145-yard 15th hole on the Dutch Course at Cragun's Legacy Courses July 25 using a 9-iron.

Jim Zaleski, Brainerd, aced the 77-yard ninth hole on Bobby's Course at Cragun's Legacy Courses July 25 using a gap wedge.

James Erickson, Chandler, Az., aced the 174-yard ninth hole of the Lakes Course at Grand View Lodge July 21 using a 4-iron.

Tom Sedgewick, Brainerd, aced the 130-yard 13th hole of The Preserve at Grand View Lodge July 29 using a 9-iron.
