Area Golf News: Harris has big day on women’s night

EAST GULL LAKE — Wendy Harris scored a clean sweep of the proximity games Tuesday, Aug. 17, on the Par 3 Course during women’s night at Cragun’s Legacy Courses.

Harris was closest to the pin and made the longest putt.

Sarah Swenson nailed the longest drive on Course 2 and Deb Cranny was closest to the pin.


Whitefish women

PEQUOT LAKES — Debbie Enger, Cheryl Stansfield and Sue Farrell captured the step-aside scramble event which coincided with the Women of Whitefish fundraising event.

The event raised money for the Outreach Program of Brainerd Lakes and raised more than $5,800.

Teresa Nelson, Nancy Einan, Brenda Hein and Susan Swanson placed second ahead of Mimi Swanson, Sharon Engman, Leisha Tietz and Claudia Zellmer.

Closest to the line winners were Lynn Francis and Joan Kantos. The longest drives were hit by Stephanie Haider and Virginia Sitzer. Carol Lovro was closest to the pin and winning the longest putt proximity were Carol Bjugan and Teresa Nelson.

Madden’s men

EAST GULL LAKE — Evan LeTourneau and Scott Juranek fired a 64.2 to win the net blind draw event Aug. 19 for the Madden’s Resort men’s league.

Juranek teamed with Justin Beaulieu to place second at 65.6. Ross Shiedecker and Greg Lange placed third ahead of Scott Hoffman and Tyler Ogren and Daryl Ramey and Ted Anderson.


Shiedecker was closest to the pin.

The event for Thursday, Aug. 26 will be a 1-man scramble.

MGA News

BEMIDJI — Claudia Pilot of Grand View Lodge fired rounds of 79-83 to tie for sixth place with a two-day 161 in the MGA Women’s Senior Amateur Championship Aug. 16-17 at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.

Leigh Klasse of University Golf Club won the event with a 152.

Ruth Klukow of Whitefish Golf Club tied for 12th in the Master Net division with her two-day score of 159.
