Area Golf News: Krieger leads area players at championship

EDEN PRAIRIE — Anna Krieger of Grand View Lodge fired a two-round 166 to tie for 20th at the Minnesota State Junior Girls’ Championship Tuesday, June 30, at Bent Creek Golf Club.

Krieger opened the tournament with an 11-over 82 Monday to land 10 shots off the leaders. She fired an 84 Tuesday to finish 24-over par.

Isabella McCauley and Reese McCauley of Southview Country Club and Aayushi Sarkar of Medina Golf and Country Club were all tied for first after the first round with a 1-over 72s. The threesome was three shots clear of the field. Isabella McCauley then fired a 69 Tuesday to finish with a 1-under 141 to win the tournament.

Izzy Olson dropped into the first flight after her opening round 92 had her tied for 56. The Brainerd Warrior playing out of Cragun’s rallied with a 78 Tuesday to finish tied for 10th with a 170.

Morgan Krieger, also playing out of Grand View Lodge, finished tied for 23rd in the first flight. She opened with a 90 and then shot 91 Tuesday for her 181.

Whitefish women

PEQUOT LAKES — Patty Kline, Helen McGrath, Roxanne Thompson and a blind draw secured the victory for the red, white and blue flag game Wednesday, June 24, for the Whitefish Women’s 18-hole League.

Barb Hanson, Teresa Nelson, Myra Faust and Diane Giefer finished second ahead of Barb Holubar, Alyssa Sharpe and Judy Eastwood.

Thompson carded the low net round with her 67. Lori McCormick carded two birdies with other birdies going to Kline, Maxine Riches, Nelson, Kathy Coombs, Nancy McEnroe, Mimi Swanson and Marguerite Baker.
