Area Golf News: Team from Cragun’s dominates for title

EDINA — Erik Stoxen, Tyler Seeling and Izzy Olson combined with PGA professional Ryan Sharpe to win the Minnesota Section PGA Pro-Junior Championship Monday, Aug. 17 at Braemer Golf Course.

The foursome out of Cragun’s Legacy Courses fired a 17-under to win the title. The team carded two eagles and 13 birdies for the tournament’s top score.

Legacy women

EAST GULL LAKE — Dana Clough and Heather Bender each smashed the longest drives Tuesday, Aug. 11, during women’s night at Cragun’s Legacy Courses.

Mavis Zachary was closest to the pin on the front nine of the Dutch Legacy.

On the Par 3 Course, Lyn Carner was the closest to the pin winner.

Whitefish men

PEQUOT LAKES — Frank Roedl captured Whitefish Golf Club men’s club championship after two rounds Tuesday, Aug. 11 and Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Roedl was the low gross title winner. The low net for the first flight went to Darrell Swanson followed by Tom Boyce and Tom McGrath.

Don Skalman was the second flight low net winner. Jim Bydlon placed second and Rocky Wilske placed third.

Mike Rancour won the third flight followed by Chuck Hicks and Sam Kantos.

Whitefish women

PEQUOT LAKES — Cathy Munger, with her two-day 156 captured the Whitefish Women’s Club Championship after two rounds Aug. 11-12.

Munger was followed by Pat Kline who shot a gross score of 174.

Net winners went to Barb Holubar with Nancy McEnroe in second.

In the second flight, Lori McCormick won the low gross title. Myra Faust was low net. Faust was followed by Anita Stensby and Pat McKee.

Cheryl Bontrager was the low gross third flight winner. Joan Kantos was the low net champion followed by Diane Giefer and Joyce Fleck.

Sandy Meyer was the low net and Marguerite Baker was second in the fourth flight.

Munger, Holubar and Kline all carded two birdies during the tournament. Faust, Fleck, Giefer and Brenda VanSandt each had one.

MGA News

Claudia Pilot was the first-round leader of the MGA Women’s Senior Amateur Championship Tuesday, Aug. 17, at the Woodhill Country Club in Woodbury.

Pilot, of Grand View Lodge, fired an opening-round 80 to pace the field

Holes-in-one

Marti Lillesve, Plymouth, aced the 120-yard 15th hole of the Dutch Legacy at Cragun’s Legacy Courses Aug. 18 using a 7-iron.

Russ Doering aced the 105-yard fifth hole of the Par 3 Course at Cragun’s Legacy Courses Aug. 17 using a pitching wedge.
