ELROSA-Just like in the spring, a Pierz baseball team will play in the state tournament with Saturday's 7-3 victory over Albany in the District 6, Division II championship.
Peter Schommer struck out six and allowed two runs on five hits and three walks over five innings. Matt Kummet pitched the final two innings. He struck out one and walked three.
Lane Girtz went 3-4 with three RBIs and a run. Kummet went 3-4 with an RBI and a double. Matt Tautges was 2-4 with three runs, a double and an RBI and Jesse Marshik was 2-3 with two runs.
Tautges scattered three hits over five innings and struck out five to pitch Pierz to a 12-2 victory in Frida's semifinals also against Albany.
Kummet provided all the offense his teammate would need as he went 3-3 with a double and home run. He drove in four runs and scored twice. Noah Boser was 3-3 with five RBIs and scored twice. Tautges finished 2-4 with two runs.
