Area Softball: Eckes, Pequot shutout OTC

Seven area teams opened up section softball action.

PEQUOT LAKES — Pequot Lakes’ Morgan Eckes recorded 10 strikeouts as she no-hit the Ottertail Central Bulldogs for a 10-0 Patriots victory in the Section 8-2A opening round Tuesday, June 1.

Eckes didn’t walk anyone, but hit one batter.

Abi Martin was 2-2 with both hits as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning. It was Martin’s RBI hit that closed the game.

Kaitlyn Geschwill went 2-3 and Maya Orvis went 2-4.

Pierz 21, Milaca 4

PIERZ — Kiara Olsech hit two home runs to go with four RBIs for the No.1 seeded Pierz Pioneers leading to a 21-4 win in the Section 6-2A opening round against the No. 16 seeded Milaca Wolves Tuesday, June 1.

Liz Kelash went 2-3 with two runs and one RBI and Erika Dickmann also went 2-3 with a double and one RBI. Tori Wagner was the winning pitcher. In four innings, she allowed only two hits and struck out four..

Pillager 10, LPGE 5

LONG PRAIRIE — Brooklyn Rudrud hit a triple, scored two runs and drove in another to lead the No. 10 seeded Pillager Huskies to a 10-5 upset of No. 7 Long Prairie-Grey Eagle in the Section 6-2A opening round Tuesday, June 1.

Tessa Danielson hit a double with two runs. Olivia Peterson recorded three RBIs and a run scored and Briana Blais also hit a double with one run and one RBI.

Blais was also the winning pitcher. In seven innings she allowed five runs on 14 hits and concluded with six strikeouts.

Pine River-Backus 12, Nevis 2

PINE RIVER — Rylee Norman finished 2-3 with four RBIs as the No. 4 seeded Pine River-Backus Tigers defeated No. 5 seeded Nevis 12-2 Tuesday, June 1, in Section 5-1A’s opening round.

Jamie Johnson was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts for the Tigers.

SAUK RAPIDS — Sammy Tembreull recorded the only run for the No. 5 Little Falls Flyers who fell to the No. 4 Sauk Rapids Storm 4-1 in the Section 8-3A opening round Tuesday, June 1.

Ellia Zimmerman hit a double and Kendra Couture drove in a run.

PERHAM — Mercedes Schulz recorded the only run for the No. 6 Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines who fell to the No. 3 Perham Yellowjackets 13-1 in the Section 8-2A opening round Tuesday, June 1.

Katelyn Gardner also had one hit for the Wolverines.
