Area Softball: Patriots sweep Staples-Motley

PEQUOT LAKES--Kathryn Miska pitched two complete games for the undefeated Pequot Lakes Patriots who swept the Staples-Motley Cardinals 13-4 and 14-0 in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Tuesday.

PEQUOT LAKES-Kathryn Miska pitched two complete games for the undefeated Pequot Lakes Patriots who swept the Staples-Motley Cardinals 13-4 and 14-0 in a Mid-State Conference doubleheader Tuesday.

Miska struck out a combined 19 batters and didn't issue a walk. She also helped her own cause going 3-4 with a 3-run home run and three RBIs in the first game and 2-4 with a double in the second game.

Alex Kotaska was 3-3 with a double and four runs and Haley Wiebolt was 2-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs for Pequot in the opener. Lisa Kossan was 2-3 with two runs for Staples-Motley.

In the second game, Barbara Miller led the Patriots at the plate going 3-4 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs. Clare Ganley, Miska and Laura Squires each had two hits and a double. Kossan had the only two hits for the Cards.

BLACKDUCK-Miah Hansen pitched a complete game striking out 10 and walking only one to lead the Pine River-Backus Tigers past the Blackduck Drakes 9-2 in an Upper Mississippi Conference game Tuesday.

Alexus Reddick went 3-5 at the plate with a triple and run scored. Allison Anderson finished 2-4 with a double, two RBIs and run scored.

Park Rapids sweeps C-I

PARK RAPIDS-Eighth-grader Caitlyn Gutzman collected her first varsity hit with a single in Game Two to break up a Park Rapids no-hitter in the fifth inning of Crosby-Ironton's 23-0 loss Tuesday.

The Rangers lost Game One 10-0 in the Mid-State Conference doubleheader. C-I's Kaitlyn Johnson went 2-3 with a double and Emily Froidcoeur finished 2-3.

Sebeka sweeps Pillager

PILLAGER -Summer Alexander collected four total hits including two doubles as the Pillager Huskies faced Sebeka in a Park Region Conference doubleheader Tuesday.

In a 14-4 loss in Game One, Samantha Thomas and Alexander each doubled while Kylie Woidyla tripled and Emma Litke recorded two hits.

The Huskies led Game Two until Sebeka tied the game in the sixth and won it in the seventh 9-8. Alexander, Abby Brooks, and Litke all doubled while Thomas tripled for the Huskies. Brooke Hunstad, Woidyla, and Alexander each had two hits in Game Two.
