Area Track and Field: Pequot gets Mid-State title for boys
Seven teams compete Thursday, May 13
CROSBY — It was a big night for Cruz Megazzini and the Pequot Lakes Boys as they claimed the Mid-State Conference title in a five-team meet Thursday, May 13.
Megazzini claimed the top spot in the 400-meter dash as well as the high jump and triple jump. Charles Schiessl won the 110 hurdles and Logan Hill was first for the 300 hurdles. Garrett Griffin took the shot put event and the Patriots also won the 4x400 relay.
Emmet Anderson and Remmington Converse each won two events for Staples-Motley and the Cardinals finished in third place as a team. It was Converse winning the 100 and 200 dash and Anderson getting the win in the 1600 and 3200 run.
Jordan Mount was a winner for the long jump and Nicke Nierenhausen claimed first place for the host Crosby-Ironton.
WADENA — Mikaela Malone finished first in the 100-meter dash and the long jump and Cole Dunker took the top spot in the 110 and 300 hurdles as the Wadena-Deer Creek boys and girls team each took first place in the Park Region Conference meet Thursday, May 13. Amber Collins took first in the 200 and 400 dash.
Other first-place finishers were Kira Sweeney in the 800 run, Ellie Hale for the shot put, Lauryn Gravelle in the discus throw, Bjorn Brunsberg for the 800 run and Charlie Bushilnger for the pole vault.
The girls relay team took the top spot in the 4x200, 4x400 and 4x800 relay and the boys were first in the 4x100.
The Pillager girls and boys team finished in second place led by Quintin Laveau’s three wins in the 100 and 200 dash and for the long jump. Jessa Kiman grabbed the top spot for the 100 and 300 hurdles.
Other winners were Sienna Swanberg in the 3200 run, Tahlia Craft in the pole vault, Zion Loucks in the 400 dash and Zach Macheel for the discus throw.
First place for relays went to the girls 4x100 team and the boys 4x200 and 4x400 teams.
The Pine River-Backus girls finished in third and the boys took the fifth spot. Individual winners were Alaura Dahl in the high jump, Jacob Schnoor in the 1600 run, Nathan Nations for the 3200 run, Kyosuke Marcum in the high jump and Joseph Nedoroscik in the triple jump.
The boys 4x800 relay team were also winners.
