Monson, a junior in her second year of track, placed second in the long jump with a leap of 16-0. She finished third in the triple jump at 36-0, but qualified by standard which was 35-8. Her jumps Thursday broke the C-I school record of 36-10 she set last year. She finished ninth at state in triple jump last year at 35-3.75.

C-I's senior Trey Jacobs had a strong, but disappointing showing finishing third in the 400 dash, third in long jump and third in triple jump. His leap of 42-7 in triple jump was a personal best 1.5 inches and was one inch shy of the school record.

Also just missing the cut for state with third-place finishes for the Rangers were eighth-grader Lily Peterson in the 800 run and Brooklyn Jones in pole vault. Jones actually tied for second with a vault of 9-4, but dropped to third due to previous scratches.

Aitkin senior Nikki Courtemanche placed third in high jump after clearing 5-0.

Next: Class 1A state meet at Hamline University, St. Paul, June 9-10.
