COLLEGEVILLE-Beth-el Algarin and the girls 4x200 relay team will represent Pierz at the Class 1A state meet after posting first-place finishes in the Section 5-1A Meet Wednesday at St. John's University.

Algarin, a junior, won the shot put with a toss of 41-4.25 which would have also qualified her for state by standard. She helped the Pioneer girls to fifth place.

According to Pierz head coach Craig Johnshoy, the relay of Breanna Kurtz, Leah Fuhrman, Avy Lease and Chelsie Kurtz won the 4x200 in 1:47.45, their best time of the year.

The top two in each event and any others who qualify by standard advance to the 1A state meet June 9-10 at Hamline University in St. Paul.

Johnshoy said senior Nathan Poster broke his own school record, clearing 12-9 in the pole vault. He finished fourth and the Pierz boys placed 15th.
