Area Volleyball: Pequot wins Walker invite

WALKER - Brittny Bzdok and Corina Ruud each posted 37 kills as the Pequot Lakes Patriots didn't drop a game en route to winning the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley invite Saturday.

WALKER - Brittny Bzdok and Corina Ruud each posted 37 kills as the Pequot Lakes Patriots didn't drop a game en route to winning the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley invite Saturday.

Bzdok added 11 digs and a block and Ruud added 6 ace blocks and 4 digs for Pequot, which beat Northland Remer 2-0, Blackduck 2-0, Cass Lake-Bena 2-0, Deer River 2-0 and Pillager in the championship 2-0.

Morgan Lohmiller finished with 63 set assists, nine kills, 10 ace serves, five blocks and 15 digs for the 14-2 Patriots.

Pillager finished 4-1 and Tricia Engholm recorded 10 ace serves, 4 kills, 81 set assists, 21 digs and Addison March posted seven ace serves, 15 kills, 13 digs.

Verndale finishes 2-4

BURNSVILLE - Shania and Jordyn Glenz both reached 1,000 career kills during the two-day Class 1A Showcase tournament, which the Verndale Pirates finished 2-4.

The Pirates beat Stephen-Argyle 1-1 and Sebeka 2-0 and lost to Mayer Lutheran 1-1, Windom 2-0, Mabel-Canton 2-0 and Kittson County Central 2-0.

Shania Glenz finished the tournament with 62 kills and 21 digs. Jordyn Glenz, who became the first Verndale girl to reach 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career posted 64 kills, 69 digs, 10 blocks and four ace serves. Megan Dougherty tallied 64 set assists and 30 digs. Haley Stinar added 42 set assists and 38 digs.

BURNSVILLE - Wadena-Deer Creek finished 1-5 at the Class 2A showcase tournament.

W-DC beat Visitation 2-1 and lost to Kasson-Mantorville 2-0, St. Croix Lutheran 2-0, Jackson County Central 1-1, Southwest Christian 2-0 and Martin County West 2-0.

The Wolverines move to 2-14 and will host PIllager 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
