Area Volleyball: SM loses and Verndale gets first win of the season

NEW YORK MILLS -- Tabetha Allen spiked 14 kills for the Staples-Motley Cardinals as they fell to New York Mills in straight sets, Monday, Sept. 9.

Heidi Lombard led the way defensively for the Cardinals collecting 11 digs. Mackenna Bjerga netted 17 set assists and collected 4 digs as well.

Verndale goes 1-3 in Browerville

BROWERVILLE -- The Verndale Pirates picked up their first win of the year but still lost three of four Saturday, Sept. 7, in the Browerville tournament.

Mallory Uselman collected 36 digs and Tess Jones recorded 25 digs. Jones also spiked 15 kills and had 31 set assists. Ashley Aarseth spiked 23 kills and collected 18 digs for the Pirates as well.
