PEQUOT LAKES — Three wrestlers from the Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus Road Crew and two from Pierz will be vying for section championships following the first day of the Section 8-2A Individual Tournament Friday, Feb. 21.
The Road Crew’s Owen Carlson, seeded No. 1 at 106 pounds, recorded a 24-second pin over Pierz’s Derek Stangl in the semifinals. Second-seeded Connor Tulenchik and Caleb Ruhl also reached the finals at 113- and 145-pounds respectively.
Trevor Radunz and Tanner Young from Pierz advanced to the championship matches at 120 and 182. Young scored an 8-3 decision over top-seeded Preston Johnson of Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton in the semis.
Wrestlebacks, championship matches and true-second matches will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 in Pequot Lakes.
