Area Wrestling: Aitkin advances to 7-1A semifinals

AITKIN - Bryce Haugly, Chris Jackson and Tyler Bare led the way with falls for the No. 3-seeded Aitkin Gobblers as they defeated No. 6 Royalton/Upsala 45-25 in the Section 7-1A team tournament quarterfinals Tuesday night.

AITKIN - Bryce Haugly, Chris Jackson and Tyler Bare led the way with falls for the No. 3-seeded Aitkin Gobblers as they defeated No. 6 Royalton/Upsala 45-25 in the Section 7-1A team tournament quarterfinals Tuesday night.

Haugly pinned Michael Lange in 3:00 and Bare pinned Randale Fernelius in 1:24. Jackson got his pin over Carson Huls in 3:43.

With the win, the Gobblers move on to the semifinals on Friday night at Royalton.

STAPLES - Eric Lisson scored a pin at 53 seconds for the No. 3-seeded Staples-Motley Cardinals in a 41-27 upset loss to No. 6 New York Mills in the Section 6-1A team tournament quarterfinals Tuesday.

Other highlights for the Cardinals were Blayne Dumpprope scoring a major decision of 9-1 and Alex Erpelding winning by technical fall at the 5:17 mark.

BARRETT - Tristin Godel's pin over Austin Carr in 38 seconds was the highlight of the night for No. 8-seeded Wadena-Deer Creek as the Wolverines lost 51-21 to No. 9 Prairie Valley in the opening round of the Section 6-1A team tournament Tuesday night.

The Wolverines also received pins from Blaine Snyder in 1:40 and from Steven Erkenbrack at 1:08 as they finished the team season with a record of 6-17.
